Plantation Tour Detail

Laura Plantation is a restore historic Louisiana Creole Plantation on the West Bank of the Mississippi River near Vacherie La. It is significant for its early 19th century Creole style to raise the big house and surviving slave cabins. It is one of only 15 Plantation complexes in Louisiana with this many complete structures. Because of its historical importance, the Plantation is on the National Registry of historic places, The site in St. James Parish Louisiana is also included on the Louisiana African-American Heritage Trail.

What to Expect

Tours of the big house will be guided by one of the plantations knowledgeable Tour guide. Oak Alley as a sugar plantation was built by and relied on enslaved men, women and children. This self guided exhibit focuses on some of the individual who were owned and kept on the plantation their lives a living condition it also includes a look into life after emancipation, as laborers continue to live in the increasingly squalid housing until the 20th century.
